BIOGRAPHY
Dr Loris Button grew up in Melbourne, Australia, completing undergraduate studies in painting and drawing at the Phillip Institute of Technology, followed by a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Tasmania. Her PhD thesis completed at the University of Ballarat, employed self-portraiture as a means for reflecting on the self, time and ageing in contemporary culture. Since 1978 she has regularly shown in both solo and group exhibitions throughout Australia and internationally. Her work is represented in public and university collections including: National Gallery of Australia, Artbank, Art Gallery of Ballarat, Federation University Australia, Il Bisonte Foundation, Florence, University of Queensland, Loreto College Ballarat, Hanji Development Institute Korea, Obras Foundation Netherlands, Port Authority of Santander Spain, RMIT Bundoora Campus. Working with prints, paintings and drawings on paper, the artist often uses handmade or reclaimed paper. She utilises imagery gathered during travels to other parts of the world and from her home environment, as a means to interrogate the nature of our engagement with time, place, culture and memory. |
